Newsies The Musical

Newsies The Musical is based on the true story of the 1899 Newsboys strike in New York City, which forced Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, publishers of newspapers The World and The Journal, to pay and treat the children who distributed the newspapers better.

The show first played at the Paper Mill House in New Jersey in September 2011 before transferring to Broadway in March 2012 for an initially limited run at the Nederlander Theatre. The production has been nominated for multiple awards, of which it has won two Tony Awards (Best Choreographer and Best Original Score) and two Drama Desk Awards (Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Music)

The shows success has resulted in the run begin extended indefinitely and there is talk of a West End production in 2013/2014.
