Description

“The Naming of Cats” – Cats – Backing Track
“The Naming of Cats” is the second song of the musical CATS, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on the poems from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. The show tells about the lives of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, who once a year choose one of their number to ascend to the ‘Heaviside Layer’ and be reborn into a new life. The Naming of Cats is a slow, eerie song which breaks the “fourth wall”, acknowledging the audience and explaining to the humans how cats are given their names, all through unison rhythmic dialogue from the full company.

Please note that this backing track is based on the 1998 film recording, and rather than the earlier London cast recording. You can buy the film version that this is based on here:
