Bonnie & Clyde

Frank Wildhorn’s musical Bonnie & Clyde with lyrics by Don Black, premiered in California in 2009, followed by Florida in 2010 and Broadway in 2011 starring Laura Osnes and Jeremy Jordan, where it was well received by audiences, but poorly reviewed by critics. The music spans gospel, rock, country, blues and 1920s jazz and ragtime. Despite nominations for two Tony awards, 5 Drama Desk awards and 3 Outer Critics Circle awards, ticket sales were slow and the production closed after only 36 performances.

The show is based on the life story of infamous American outlaws and lovers Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker who achieved cult hero status during the Great Depression. Aided in their robbing sprees by Clyde’s brother Buck and his reluctant wife Blanche, they are relentlessly pursued by Ted Hinton and Sheriff Schmidt and meet their end ambushed by the police.
