Description

“The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles” – Cats – Backing Track
“The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles” is a song that comes part-way through the first half of the musical CATS, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on the poems from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. The show tells about the lives of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, who once a year choose one of their number to ascend to the ‘Heaviside Layer’ and be reborn into a new life. The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles is performed by characters Munkustrap, Rumpus Cat and the rest of the company, and tells the story of two rival dog tribes who engage in battle before they are eventually scared off by a cat with flashing red eyes, the Great Rumpus Cat.

Please note that this backing track is based on the 1998 film recording, rather than the earlier London cast recording. You can buy the film version that this is based on here:
